Review Of The Rotak Collection Of Electric Rotaries From Bosch

Every Rotak model in the Bosch lawnmower range is a carefully engineered rotary electric mower. They are remarkably lightweight and manoeuvrable, yet capable of tackling just about any grasscutting jobs in the garden.

There is a range of sizes to suit the job in hand, and a choice of mains electric or rechargeable models.

Mains Powered

The smallest of the range is the Rotak 320. Styled rather differently from the rest of the range, the 320 is very simple in design. It is powered by a 1000w motor and has a cutting width of 32 cm. It is simple in design and extremely keenly priced yet robustly built.

The other members of the mains electric Rotak range are all very similarly styled to each other and range in size from 34 cm through 36, 40 and 43 cm cutting widths. Motor power ranges from 1400w to 1800w.

Bosch is well known for the clever grass comb system, which sweeps the grass into the path of the cutter blade. Additionally, the front wheels are set inside the line of the blade housing. The combs and wheel geometry enable the mower to cut along a fence or wall without leaving a strip of grass uncut.

All allow the cutting height to be adjusted easily between 20 and 70 mm.

They are astonishingly lightweight, varying from 11 to 13.5 kg. The moulded carry handle makes transport easy. Storage is easy due to the folding main handle.

The grassboxes are a good size of either 40 litres for the three smallest, and 50 litres for the two largest models.

A 24 month manufacturers warranty is standard on every Bosch lawnmower.

Cordless

There are three cordless versions, the 34Li, 37Li and 43Li.

All feature advanced Lithium-ion battery technology. Full recharging takes only 1 hour but can be rapid-charged to 80% of capacity in half that if required. The batteries do not suffer from any annoying memory degradation.

Otherwise they are similar in appearance and function to their mains-powered equivalents. They are similar in weight, from 12.8 to 13.8 kg. They can be similarly easily adjusted for height of cut. All the cordless models have the inset front wheel arrangement and grass combs featured on the mains powered models and are equally transportable and easy to store.

The cordless models are priced around twice that of a mains-powered version. All carry a 2 year warranty from Bosch.

The Bosch lawnmower range richly deserves its popularity and wide appeal. They are are readily sourced and come with very keen prices.
